My parents live in "Tres Arroyos", which is located ~500km south of Buenos Aires.

This collection holds photos of that town and surrounding places.

Extrañitud

"Extrañitud" is a Spanish word that means "weirdness" or the quality of something being strange or bizarre.

I once heard that photography is, among other things, about making extraordinary images out of ordinary subjects.

Long ago, an art teacher proposed as an exercise to find and depict the "extrañitud", the weirdness in common objects or situations. Since then, I've developed a habit of seeking out and capturing that weirdness in everyday scenes through my photographs.

This collection holds photos that convey such "Extrañitud". Curiously, some of them were quick snapshots taken with my phone instead of my DSLR camera. "Extrañitud" seems to flow more naturally that way.

New York 2022

I went to New York in September 2022 and witnessed from inside the bell ceremony at NASDAQ of a company (Rover.com) going public.

I never worked at Rover. However, my wife was back then the VP of accounting and that is how I had the privilege to see everything from the inside.

I have worked in tech myself for most of my life, but never on a US based start-up. Seeing a company go public and witnessing it from the inside, as well as being at the bell ceremony, was surreal. If that is not one of the highlights of the “#americana” hashtag, I don’t know then what it is: Business, money, power… on the city they say, that never sleeps.

I did my best to document the moment, but I also had some time to walk around the city. The photographs you see in this collection are part of those ~3 days in New York city, and you will find a mix of street, architecture and other types of photography.

I understand now the fascination of some photographers (and other artists) with New York. I spent “not enough time” there, and I'm sure I could easily get lost there forever, just walking and doing nonstop photography. I hope I can go back one day and spend more time just wandering.

Bird Photography

I like doing bird photography for many reasons.

It pushes me out of the house and into nature. It is a great way to be close to nature, to treasure it. Birds are these fantastic creatures: the dinosaurs that survived a mass extinction, adapted and thrived after the disaster.

The hunt is fun. You must get close; you must become a predator that doesn't kill but instead takes shots with a camera. You must move around, wait, and find the right angle. Be patient. I think this is a great complement to my own meditative approach to photography.

There is also a part of me that is a tech geek, and bird photography has a lot of that.

The subtle balance between having the right or good enough gear, but at the same time, something that is affordable (not some crazy $20k in camera + tele), and that you can also reasonably carry.

I love the tricky technical aspects involved in photographing birds. You do have to think on the right settings, the right technique. Some of those small details can improve your success rate a lot.

Bird photography also teaches you to lose (but I think this is a general aspect of photography in general). You may see a great opportunity for a shot, an amazing bird perched in the right place under the right light, but if you are not ready, don’t have the right lens, the right settings and don’t do act quick enough… you are out of luck. You lose your chance, and that image will only live in your mind.

Ferry Boats

I got on a ferry for the first time in Seattle.

Ferries are those amazing ships, that normally cover short distances, carrying cars, cyclists, and passengers.

There is a magic to them, enough to dedicate numerous photographs, and eventually, perhaps even a book.

Toy photography (sometimes just macro) is something that I love doing.

This collection contains some toy and macro shots I've taken over the years.

I took lots of photographs between 2016 and 2018. My workflows back then were much less defined than they are today.

Some of those photographs are plain crap. Some, revisiting them (and post-processing them again), I still like. This collection contains such photographs.
